What you need to know:
- The UTP Operating Committee (UTPOC) has recently completed their capacity analysis, and completed its migration from a 1-second planning interval to 100-milliseconds (1/10 of a second). The use of 100-millisecond interval better reflects system utilization during bursts of traffic.
- Based on the results of this study, the 100-millisecond planning interval and the ongoing efforts to improve the performance of the UTP Security Information Processor (UTP SIP), the UTP SIP will increase the bandwidth recommendations for the UTP Data Feeds.
- All direct connect UTP subscribers, as well as extranet providers, should make plans to upgrade their data circuits by Monday, June 29, 2015.
What is changing?
The UTP Participants have updated their traffic projections for July, 2015, and completed its migration from a 1-second planning interval to 100-milliseconds (1/10 of a second). The use of the 100-millisecond interval better reflects system utilization during bursts of traffic. The maximum output traffic rates for UTP data services will be as follows:
New 100-Millisecond bandwidth recommendation, effective June 29, 2015:
Data Feed | New Bandwidth Allocation Megabits Per 100-Millisecond (Mbp100ms) | Approximate Throughput Message Rate Per 100-Milliseconds |
---|---|---|
UQDF | 115.0 Mbp100ms | 167,000 |
UTDF | 40.0 Mbp100ms | 68,500 |
OMDF | 2.0 Mbp100ms | 2,900 |
New bandwidth allocations are based on an average message size, during peak, of 86 bytes for UQDF, 73 bytes for UTDF and 85 bytes for OMDF.
Current 1-Second Bandwidth Recommendations:
Data Feed | Current Bandwidth Allocation Megabits Per 1-Second | Approximate Throughput Message Rate |
---|---|---|
UQDF | 392.0 Mbps | 700,000 Per 1-Second |
UTDF | 181.0 Mbps | 390,000 Per 1-Second |
OMDF | 9.2 Mbps | 16,000 Per 1-Second |
Please note that the bandwidth allocation stated is for a single multicast group. For fault tolerance reasons, the standard UTP configuration consists of both a primary and a back-up multicast group.
When will the new higher data rates be supported?
The UTP SIP plans to support the higher data rates begining in Q3 2015. Therefore, all firms should make the necessary network upgrades to accommodate the higher bandwidth allocation, at the 100-millisecond interval, scheduled for implementation by Monday, June 29, 2015.
Where can I find information related to the quote and trade metrics?
