Updated: NASDAQ Offers Upcoming Testing Opportunities for Changes to the Stock Symbol System Plan

What you need to know:

  • As announced in Head Trader Alert #2007-008, NASDAQ is offering firms the following opportunities for testing changes to the stock symbol system plan:
    • From Thursday, February 1, 2007, through Friday, February 16, 2007, NASDAQ will offer 1-, 2- and 3-character NASDAQ-listed test issues in production in the after-hours trading session.
    • On Tuesday, February 20, 2007, NASDAQ will offer 1-, 2- and 3-character NASDAQ-listed test issues in production in all trading sessions.
  • NASDAQ strongly recommends that all impacted customers participate in these testing opportunities.
  • Updated February 1, 2007: The listing markets of the test symbols have been updated.

What is the upcoming testing schedule for the stock symbol system changes?
As announced in Head Trader Alert #2007-008, NASDAQ® is offering the following testing opportunities for changes to the stock symbol system plan:

  • February 1-16, 2007: 1-, 2- and 3-character NASDAQ-listed test issues in production in the after-hours trading session.
  • February 20, 2007: 1-, 2- and 3-character NASDAQ-listed test issues in production in all trading sessions.

What are the details of the first testing opportunity?
From Thursday, February 1st through Friday, February 16th, the testing of 1-, 2- and 3-character NASDAQ-listed test issues will be available in the after-hours trading session (4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time (ET)). NASDAQ strongly recommends that all impacted customers participate in this testing.

Testing will be conducted on the following schedule:

  • Day 1 (Thursday, February 1st) — NASDAQ-listed test symbols released as IPOs
    • 4:05 p.m., ET — quoting begins
    • 4:20 p.m., ET — trading begins
  • Days 2-11 (Friday, February 2nd through Friday, February 16th) — NASDAQ-listed test symbols placed in a halted state until after-hours trading session
    • 7:00 a.m., ET — test symbols placed in a halted state; all directory messages and batches will contain the halt information
    • 4:05 p.m., ET — quoting begins
    • 4:10 p.m., ET — trading begins

What will be available for testing?
NASDAQ-Listed Test Stocks*:

  • Z (NASDAQ Global Select MarketSM)
  • ZX (NASDAQ Global MarketSM)
  • ZZX (NASDAQ Capital Market®)

Please note that these test symbols are subject to change at any time. Updates to this list will be communicated via Head Trader Alerts and will be available on the NASDAQ Stock Symbol System Plan page of the NASDAQ Trader® website.
