What you need to know:

  • As announced in UTP Vendor Alert 2016-04, the Securities Information Processor (SIP) posted preliminary bandwidth recommendations for the new SIP Binary services.
  • UPDATE:
  • The UTP SIP would like to revise the originally posted bandwidth requirements. When creating the notice it incorrectly stated the recommended bandwidth per multicast group. This was initially stated as 3.4 Gbps per feed/per group. It should have been stated as 1.7 Gbps.
  • Recent capacity testing confirms the UTP SIP bandwidth recommendation of 1.7 Gbps; note that this is the recommended bandwidth for subscribers who wish to maintain adequate bandwidth to accommodate the systems maximum burst capability.
  • This recommendation does not reflect actual historical peak burst rates. While we do not anticipate the actual message rates that recipients are experiencing to dramatically change with regards to migration we are designing the system to accommodate a significant increase in throughput. As you may be aware the UTP committee requires the SIP to publish to the street what the system is able to accommodate as its bandwidth recommendations in order to accommodate bursts of traffic.
  • For further consideration, with respect to bandwidth, the capacity planning process requires the SIP to provide 150% of historical peaks:
    • 100 millisecond planning interval messages per 100ms (MPHM):
      • UTDF has been 41,654 MPHM; 150% of historical peaks for UTDF 62,481 MPHM
      • UQDF has been 123,461 MPHM; 150% of historical peaks for UQDF 185,192 MPHM
    • Historical messages per 1 second (MPS):
      • UTDF has been 115,389 MPS; 150% of historical peaks for UTDF 173,084 MPS
      • UQDF has been 392,660 MPS; 150% of historical peaks for UQDF 588,990 MPS
  • Recommended allocations are based on an average message size, during peak, of approximately 86 bytes for UQDF, 73 bytes for UTDF
  • Please refer to the UTP Plan Quarterly Metrics for more historical statistics related to peak message rates.

What are the revised bandwidth recommendations for the new INET SIP data services?

The revised recommendations should be as follows for subscribers that wish to maintain adequate bandwidth to accommodate the systems maximum burst capability.

UQDF Binary 1.7 Gb 1.7 Gb 1.7 Gb 1.7 Gb
UTDF Binary 1.7 Gb 1.7 Gb 1.7 Gb 1.7 Gb
