A leap second is an extra second which is added to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) / Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) in order to synchronize atomic clocks with astronomical time to keep clocks as accurate as possible. To minimize any potential impacts this may have on external systems, Nasdaq, in conjunction with other UTP participants, has made the decision to implement an early close for those systems which would normally close at 20:00 ET, June 30th (00:00 UTC , July 1st).
