What is being launched?
On Monday, April 2, 2012, NASDAQ OMX LLC will be launching a newly enhanced GIDS 2.0 powered by NASDAQ OMX INET technology. NASDAQ OMX's INET technology is the fastest and most scalable trading technology in the world, with sub-microsecond speeds and high reliability and capacity. With this upgrade, NASDAQ OMX will be positioned to continue delivering its new index benchmark series and leading the industry as a premier provider of real-time data.
The enhancements of GIDS 2.0, which will replace the current version of GIDS, are a part of NASDAQ OMX's continuous effort to improve our data services and to provide real-time delivery of NASDAQ OMX and third party partner indexes and ETPs.
On Monday, April 2, 2012 GIDS 2.0 will launch in BETA testing for a one month period prior to becoming a production service on Monday, May 7, 2012.
What improvements are included in GIDS 2.0?
GIDS 2.0 will provide expanded global coverage allowing for NASDAQ OMX to expand its index benchmark offerings to the world markets. Additionally, GIDS 2.0 enhancements include:
- Extended operational hours to service a world market. GIDS 2.0 will be available 23 hours a day, five days a week (23/5).
- Start-of-Day (SOD) as well as End-of-Day (EOD) summary information for covered indexes and ETPs.
- Regional delivery of summary information by asset class allowing data recipients to receive information relevant to their local market closing session.
Are there any changes to the current GIDS prior to the launch of GIDS 2.0?
In preparation for the launch of GIDS 2.0, NASDAQ OMX will be internally migrating indexes to the INET technology. NASDAQ OMX is taking every precaution to ensure that the current GIDS does not have any material changes to the data formats or message processing as a result of this internal migration.
Direct data recipients can be assured that there are NO message format changes to the existing GIDS data service. However, there will be minor behavioral changes in how the spin messages will be processed. Beginning on Monday, February 13, 2012, data recipients may see minor changes in the order of delivery for the following messages:
- Opening spins
- Summary spins
- Issue participation messages
In order to provide data recipients an opportunity to ensure there are no impacts to their environments as we migrate over to the INET technology, NASDAQ OMX will provide testing opportunities for the current GIDS data service:
- Saturday, January 28, 2012
- Saturday. February 4, 2012
- Evening data test files beginning Monday, January 30, 2012 until Friday, February 10, 2012
Will the existing GIDS data service be retired?
Yes, NASDAQ OMX intends to retire the current version of GIDS on Friday, December 28, 2012.
The enhanced GIDS 2.0 will be our premier product for the global delivery of NASDAQ OMX and third party index as well as ETP values. NASDAQ OMX advises data recipients to utilize the one month BETA testing period, beginning April 2nd, to ensure seamless receipt and delivery of index data and migrate to GIDS 2.0 by production launch date of Monday, May 7, 2012. Customers will need to transition to GIDS 2.0 in order to benefit from the expanded operational hours and global coverage of the new service, and decrease the risk of real-time index data interruption.
Will GIDS 2.0 carry all current indexes that I receive on GIDS today?
Yes, all indexes that are currently on GIDS will be available via GIDS 2.0. For a current list of the indexes available on GIDS, please refer to the NASDAQ OMX GIDS Index Directory on the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Watch (GIW) website.
What do firms need to do?
New IP address information will be provided at a later date. Firms must be prepared to connect to the new connection addresses no later than the end of May 2012 to avoid the risk of losing data.
Once GIDS 2.0 is in production will you continue to add indexes to both GIDS and GIDS 2.0?
No. Beginning on Monday, May 7, 2012, GIDS 2.0 will become the premier product for the global delivery of NASDAQ OMX and third party index and ETP values; as such, all indexes launched after May 7, 2012 will only be available on GIDS 2.0. In 2012, NASDAQ OMX will be releasing new indexes that will cover broader segments of the global market. This new offering will require the delivery of real-time data 23 hours a day, five days a week, and NASDAQ OMX will only be able to introduce the new indexes on GIDS 2.0. NASDAQ OMX strongly encourages data recipients to migrate to GIDS 2.0 in order to ensure uninterrupted delivery of their real-time index and ETP values as well as receiving all newly released indexes and ETPs.
Will there be testing opportunities for GIDS 2.0?
Yes, GIDS 2.0 will be launched in BETA testing on Monday, April 2, 2012 for a one month period and will be released as a production feed on Monday, May 7, 2012. Direct recipients are encouraged to use this BETA testing period to fully test their access and processing of the data. In addition to the BETA testing period, NASDAQ OMX will offer the following weekend Saturday testing opportunities:
- Saturday, March 31, 2012
- Saturday, April 14, 2012
